GWINNETT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ADDRESSES PUBLIC COMMENTS
REGARDING HB 1105

GCSO

Jul 29, 2025

News Release

(Gwinnett County, Ga., July 29, 2025) – On Monday, July 28, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office welcomed a group of community leaders, civil rights organizations, and elected officials for a candid, solutions-focused conversation about immigration protocols under HB 1105, public safety, and transparency.

This meeting was an opportunity for thoughtful engagement on how the law is being implemented in Gwinnett County, what it requires of our office, and what it does not. Attendees were given ample time to ask questions and engage in a transparent discussion.

For clarity, under HB 1105, immigration detainers are initiated solely by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Sheriff’s Office does not conduct immigration investigations or enforce federal immigration laws.

The Sheriff’s Office deeply appreciates the dedication of all participants and recognizes the importance of public dialogue. However, some recent comments originated from individuals who were invited but did not attend the meeting and therefore do not reflect the actual discussions among attendees.

Sheriff Keybo Taylor remains committed to open dialogue and accountability. Our office will continue to work with stakeholders, provide transparency, and follow the law, while always working to serve and protect our community with dignity and professionalism.
